Seniors in Need Program

All proceeds from our exhibitors, sponsors and attendees go to the Seniors in Need Program. The Program provides one-time emergency assistance to Baltimore County seniors who qualify financially. This assistance may include such necessities as groceries, medications or support for utility bills.

Here are a few examples of the positive impact of the Program:

  • A client was robbed of cash she was planning to use to pay her bills. Winter was approaching and the client was trying to make her propane supplies to heat her home last until her energy assistance benefit came through. When it became apparent that the propane would not last, the Program provided a one-time grant to get a propane delivery so she could have adequate heat.

  • A 65-year-old woman was transitioning to Medicare and required eight prescription medications. The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) office helped her enroll in Medicare and a Medicare prescription drug plan and also apply for all the Medicare savings programs she was eligible for. However, these programs would not go into effect immediately, leaving a gap in her drug coverage. The Program helped her pay for a one-time supply of critical medications until her benefits kicked in.

  • An older couple, both in their 70s with very limited income, met with a BCDA representative to apply for several public benefits. As they were completing the forms, the BCDA representative noticed that the couple had difficulty reading. The man’s eyeglasses had broken several years ago and he had not been able to afford a new pair. The woman’s prescription was several years old and she was no longer able to see well. The BCDA representative arranged for them to have a vision exam and the Program paid for both of them to get new eyeglasses.

  • An 86-year-old woman had a stair lift in her home due to health conditions that made it difficult to manage the stairs. The lift broke and she was unable to afford the cost of repairs. This left her stranded and unable to easily get out of her home. The Program paid for the stair lift repair so that she could once again access both floors of her home.

Donations are accepted year-round. Please consider contributing today. To make a donation, please mail your check to:
